prejudice

May 23, 2007

My relation is to prejudice would probably have to be my dad. He always makes jokes like I once ran over a can…. An African. Or like he says that the upn the t.v network stands for unemployed niggers. Im not the prejudice type I think everyone should be treated the same no matter what there color is. All in all I don’t think my dad is either but he just likes to make jokes about them.

Alternative Ending

May 17, 2007

In my opinion I think that Tom Robinson was innocent. That’s why if I wrote this book I would probably hace a couple of different possible endings. For instance since I thought Tom was innocent so during the trial I would probably have had Tom Robinson innocent. I believe the main reason he even got convicted was because he was black and the jury and pretty much the whole town was racist. If I didn’t use that ending my othe ending would be that Tom still goes to prison but he escapes. Then he would make his way up north where there is not as much prejudice. My final ending would be that Tom was so stressed out with everything that he just snaps and commits suicide.

Final thoughts

May 11, 2007

My final thoughts on this books were I thought it was pretty good book in general. I thought this book showed a lot of truth. For instance prejudice was a big part of the book which there is a lot of prejudice in our lives today. My only problem was the book was very long and a lot of boring parts in the book so after reading to long I start to zone out. I thought that Atticus was a great guy though, he treated everyone the same even though they were black or white even no matter what anyone said about it. What I really liked about it was a lot of the parts got really interesting for instance the trial was very interesting. My final thoughts all together were o.k. I thought the book was alright but it’s not really my type of book to read.

Chapter 16-19 blog

May 4, 2007

My reading so far to this point has been o.k but not what I was striving for. I think it has been just because we have been reading this book so long that I have trouble reading. When I have been reading the past week or so I have been reading the words but not understanding the text. This is something that I need to improve for the further chapters. One good thing is for the most part I pretty much know whats going on but I keep missing important little details. My solution for my own problem is to just focus on reading and if I start to drift off while I am reading I will just re-read the text.

Blog reflection

May 4, 2007

So far with blogs this year we have done quite a lot. We have first of all learned how to write the blogs which me and Im pretty sure a lot of other class wasn’t very familiar with the blogs we have been working on. My favorite thing to blog about was probably the old man at sea book because we actually went over the book in class and it was that much more easier to understand the book and to blog about. Probably the best thing I do on the blogs this year would probably be the reflections on the books or articles we read. I usually do really well on the books I really understand, but on the other hand if you don’t understand the book then you ask questions about it and post it on the blog. The comfort I have with blogs is pretty good but at first I thought it was kind of weird because I didn’t know what we were doing. The blogs were a lot different then writing in other classes because it’s always and the computers and it’s almost always a reflection.

dahl fine arts blog

April 26, 2007

I went to the picture show at the dahl fine art center about a month ago with my friends. One of my friends I went with  actually had picture entered in the show. One of my favorite pictures was when you first enter and go the the proffesionals to the right their was a picture of a wolf print in the sand and the picture actually looked like it stuck out. I thought pictures took like no talent but from what my friend said you have to set the coloring and resolution and all that just right for the picture to turn out good. In that back room to the left I thought alot of the pictures was actually kind of wierd but they were unique. When I went in that back room alot of the pictures were different types of photography and I even seen some people I know like Mrs. Larson. I particularly like the photos with nature in it kind of like the one with animals or the frozen ice. If anyone reading this blog hasn’t been there to see the pictures I recomend going.

chapter 7 and 8 questions

April 12, 2007

During these chapters alot of stuff happened. For instance ms maudies house went up in flames do to her fire place being on to late. Also for the first time in many years Maycomb countie got snow and their school had a snow day. Even though their was a lot that happened our group still managed come up with some questions. Some of the questions we came up with were,  why were they confused about it snowing when they talked about in school? I think they were confused about it because the have herd about but never actually seen it. Also the children are to young to have seen the snow the last time it snowed in maycomb countie.

Chapter 9-11

April 12, 2007

This were very important chapters in the book to me. These chapters showed great amount of prejudice and racism. Mrs. dubose was a very grumpy and angree lady. She was giving Scout and Jem bad time for walking the streets and saying they were playing hooky even though it was weekend. She showed great prejudice towards scout by saying she needs to dress more like a girl or shes going to grow like a scrubs. She also showed alot of racism by saying things like ” Your dads no better than the niggers and trash he works for.” on page 102.  This just shows what kind of lady she is, or maby she has just had all that anger built up from all her years. I think racism is just a thing that you have I think its something that runs in the family. The thing I didn’t understand in the chapter was why did Jem get mad when Mrs. Dubose gave him a flower before she died?

racism blog

April 10, 2007

I would say today thier is a lot of racism but I think more people do it as jokes more than seriously. Like for instance people joke around about black or natives or what not thier not like seriously hateful towards them. Like i I have some family who make racial jokes like ” I ran over a can once, an African!” But he was not actually racist. Back in the day though when they had slaves people really hated black people. Also in the book Mrs. Duboise was really racist towards black people mabey because she grew up during slaves. I don’t necciceraly agree with racism I just think its way over rated. That is just an opinion to me, like for instance native americans especially in South Dakota. They say we were racist for taking thier land so we give them money and its still not good enough for them. Also the n-word was a racist term that white people gave black people during slavery, know they just use it as a slang term.  No matter how much time goes by racism will always be around .

The Crusible Reflection

March 6, 2007

The Crucible is a mobie that cannot be described by one word. The first word I think would describe it would be wierd. I say that because all the people in the movie were all kind of shady and creepy. I thought it was also kind off wierd because all the girls were just dancing around the fire and all of a sudden some girl randomly bites a birds head off. Another reason I found it wierd was not only were they dancing but then they all started to dance naked. Another word to describe it would be trust. You have to trust people who were saying they seen one another with the devil. If you do not be honest you can end up getting other people kill which happened quite often in this book. Alot of people in the story got confused do to the dis-honesty by the little girls. Confusion would have to be my next word. Everyone was confused and didn’t know what to do when this whole whichcraft thing came upon. Many people also started to get confused when they didn’t know who was committing this whole witchcraft thing. My next word is lies. Many lies were told around the town to start the whole controversy. Many young girls told lies which other people paid for by death. If the girls would of just been honest none of the hangings probably would of happened.
